This last fortnight I’ve been tentatively going for my first walks all year. Very pleased. It hurts, but I’m relieved to be back on my feet at last!
At my recent check-up my specialist gave a little more graphic justification for the pain I’ve been dealing with, saying it’s as though I had a fractured spine to heal; it takes a while. My blood results are fine and all in all, I’m in a good position for continued improvement with no need for chemo this year.
Interesting news: Some of the latest research on ovarian cancer is indicating there may be genetic diversity in different tumours, especially with recurrence. It makes it very tricky to develop a targetted therapy, if there are several targets. So many of the really exciting new drugs work by addressing the actual problem in the DNA, for example my rucaparib pills last year were for stopping overactive cell repairs. If there is more than one problem, this may explain why, sadly, a single treatment is rarely enough to stop the disease.
